ASCC Communications Awards 2009
The ASCC Awards recognise best practice in social care communication throughout the UK. The awards are a chance for all social care communicators to promote their best work. Winners and highly commended entries were announced at the ASCC Regional seminars in the autumn of 2009.
The winner of each category won £500 and two certificates - one for themselves and one for their director. There were also highly commended entries which received certificates.

Durham County Council - The Children's Network Campaign
A Network for children & young people with disabilities from birth until their 19th birthday. Aims to keep parents/carers, children & young people informed & pass on useful information. Build networks for parents/carers to not feel isolated and alone. Achieved through regular newsletters, events, branded gifts and short breaks.

Glasgow City Council Social Services - Autism Alert Card & DVD
The alert card carries details of a personal contact who can be contacted for immediate assistance, as well as contact details for the ARC and NAS helpline. The card is available free of charge to adults & children with ASD who are resident within the Strathclyde Police area. The idea of the DVD is that it will raise awareness of how to provide a more effective response to those affected by ASD.

Northamptonshire County Council - Personal Budgets
Personal Budgets are a new way of providing social care in Northamptonshire. Instead of receiving a prescribed care package from the council puts social care customers in direct financial control of the support they receive. My life: it's about me was the campaign developed for communicating the personal budgets scheme. It was aimed at black and minority communities, people with learning disabilities, people with physical disabilities & older people through a range of leaflets and a DVD.

Raw Design Studio Room - Fostering Campaign
Wakefield Council wanted to generate more enquiries and increase the amount of fosters carers. The campaign included a web site, an 8 page intro leaflet, a 16 page intro leaflet, a full information pack, a magazine, an ad campaign and a PR strategy.

Domestic Abuse & Violence Against Women Partnership, Dumfries & Galloway - Domestic Abuse…there's no excuse
The aim of this campaign was to raise awareness of the issues surrounding domestic abuse and older people. The campaign consisted of TV adverts and a leaflet.

Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea - Your Choice
A DVD to show the range of services available in the borough for people with learning disabilities. It was shown to parents & carers & the Council's Transition sub-group for feedback.

The new My Care, My Choice website has been created using positive imagery and a range of complementary colours to help people navigate through the world of social care through an intuitive decision making process. The site is for use by professionals as an information resource, carers and members of the public who may potentially use the service, and carers & family members who are able to undertake a self assessment and look at the range of services available to them.

West Glasgow Community Health & Care Partnership - You Can Do It' DVD
The DVD was made to promote more active lifestyles for adults with learning disabilities. The DVD was officially launched in October 2008.

Hertfordshire County Council - Self Directed Support in Hertfordshire
A DVD was created to explain and promote the ethos of self directed support in a user-friendly way. It includes several case studies of people with learning disabilities who have a personal budget and how it has changed their lives and the lives of their families. In was created alongside the report which was co-written by Hertfordshire & inControl, a national membership, dedicated to reforming the social acre system in the UK.

Raw design studio undertook the design of the website, with Victoria Hill and Justin Varney at NHS Barking & Dagenham producing the content for the site. Along with a set of postcards and posters designed to advertise the site to health professionals, within London and nationally.

North Lanarkshire Council Safer Communities - domestic abuse
An event held on the 9th & 10th March 2009 was 'to raise and improve awareness of working practices around domestic abuse.' Aimed at professionals working in the Lanarkshire area. Materials included; A drama based DVD with scenarios and questions, a programme to be used on the day, a ppvote presentation to raise awareness and combat myths, a large banner of the event produced on the day.

Nottinghamshire County Council, County Youth Arts - HEARTS AND MINDS
A DVD was created with young people around issues of emotional health. This along with an evaluation report have been submitted.

A short DVD which promotes Telecare alarms to the general public, which in the past had only been available through referral from a health or social care professional.

Project on a budget
Durham County Council, Adults, Wellbeing and Health Carers Week
An internal computer pop-up to all DCC staff that use the network. Printed adverts on the side of buses across the county. Electronic screens inside busses which displayed the advert to passengers. A 40 second radio advert which ran a various times. An advert in the Advertiser North, a free, local newspaper.

The leaflet was produced to explain what telecare is and how it can be used to promote independence and reduce risks in the home. Created in an accessible leaflet format.

Sheffield City Council Choices not Barriers (disabled persons) Housing Strategy
The strategy covers all housing and related services. A group of volunteers helped to produce a leaflet which has an innovative and simple layout, clear typography and a highly developed structure which tells a story.

Provides quarterly information about services and support for carers in County Durham as well as providing conduit for users feedback on changes to existing or the introduction of new services. A twenty page colour magazine.

Raw Design Studio - The Room magazine
The small-scale magazine is packed with information on fostering and life style articles. The aim of the wider campaign was to attract carers in the 30-65 years age range, as well as laying the foundations with younger people who could potentially become carers in the future.

The newsletter was launched to create a new channel for communicating with all Health & Adult Social Care staff about Personalisation and how it affects them.

Stockport Council (Adults &Communities) - Taking care of our future – How you can help make your local health and care services right for you
The publication was produced in accordance with the Stockport Council standards and guidelines. The text was accessible, clear, easy to understand and jargon free, with the use of plain English throughout. A range of bright colourful images were used, including shots of local people and the local area to help attract and engage readers.

Hertfordshire County Council - Stopping adult abuse leaflet
The leaflet contains basic information about abuse - what it is; the different types of abuse; how to stop it and crucially, that it is always wrong and you must not keep quiet about it. Written in a clear, concise language and use of pictures mean that it is useful to a variety of people who might be classed as vulnerable.
